This notice says exactly what the service stores. It is short because the service collects very little, and that is a design decision rather than an accident: there is no email address anywhere in this system.

The local editor

The editor and the engine run on your machine and keep your content on your disk. Authoring, validating, re-running and watching a playback involve no network call and send us nothing. There is no login for the editor and no account behind it.

What is stored

• Your username and a hash of your password.
• A hash of your recovery key, if you have generated one.
• Store purchase details and simulation jobs accounting records.
• Your published simulation models.
• Your IP address and request details.

What is never collected

• No email address, phone number, real name or postal address.
• No location beyond what an IP address implies.
• No titles, descriptions or names on a model. A hosted model carries ids and numbers; the labels a human would read stay in your local copy.
• No gallery, no search, no index, no popularity surface. There is no route that lists what exists, so there is nothing for us to publish and nothing for anyone else to browse.
• No advertising identifiers and no behavioural profile of any kind.

What is honestly not a secret from us

Two things, stated here rather than left for someone to discover.

• The engine must read a model to run it. A published model is held on our disks as it was uploaded, and we do not claim to be incapable of reading one.
• A playback is content. Anyone holding a model id can choose their own simulation model specs and read the numbers that come back. Not being able to download a model is a property of files, not of what can be inferred by running it.

Who else sees anything

Nobody. The only party that sees traffic is the hosting provider carrying it, as it must to reach you. When payments go live they will be handled by a payment processor, which receives only what it needs to take the payment; card details are never held by us and never reach this service.

How long it is kept

• Request logs: 14 days.
• Account data, balances and receipts: until you delete the account, and then as long as the accounting behind a charge requires.
• Published models: until you delete them, which you can do yourself at any time. The stored bytes go with them.

Deleting things

You can delete a hosted model yourself, at any time, from your account — no request, no waiting, no asking anyone. For anything else, get in touch.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, data-protection law may give you rights over personal data held about you: to see it, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how it is used, and to complain to your national data-protection authority. To exercise any of them, write to hello@simengine.net.

Children

This service is not directed at children. If you believe a child's data has ended up here, get in touch and it will be removed.

Security

Passwords, recovery keys and API keys are stored only as non-reversible hashes and cannot be read back. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Model bytes are not encrypted at rest — a published model is held as it was uploaded — which is why what one carries is ids and numbers and never the labels a human would read.

Reasonable care is taken. No specific security certification is claimed anywhere on this site, no site can promise perfect security, and you should not reuse an important password here.

Governing law

This notice, and the handling of personal data described in it, are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Changes

This notice may change. The date at the top changes with it.
